With England playing their last match of this bumper international break against Czechia tonight, and the Premier League returning this weekend, we take a look at the new trio of sides causing havoc for the Premier League's "big six", called The Bermuda Triangle.
The triangle consists of Bournemouth, Brighton, and Brentford, and the term comes from, if you were to draw a line to connect the three clubs, it would resemble a triangle, in which Premier League clubs lose points within this triangle.
Recent results have further pushed this narrative, with Brentford and Brighton both winning 3-0 against big six sides, Chelsea and Arsenal, before the international break, whereas Bournemouth came close to getting something from their game against Liverpool but fell to a 1-0 defeat.
Chelsea's record against "The Bermuda Triangle"
Chelsea make their Premier League return against Bournemouth, hoping not to get lost in those waters when it comes to their record against the Cherries. In the past four seasons in which they have been in the Premier League, Chelsea have yet to lose against them, winning four and drawing four in those eight games.
Looking into how the Blues have fared against the other two sides, they have already played against both of them, avoiding getting "pecked by the Seagulls", winning 4-3 at Stamford Bridge in August, but weren't able to get away from being "buzzed by the Bees", falling to a 3-0 defeat at the GTech Community Stadium.
For Chelsea's individual record against Brentford and Brighton, in the last five seasons, in all competitions, they've played both sides a combined 27 times, winning nine times, drawing six and losing ten of them.
The big six's record against them
Since the start of the 2024/25 season, Brighton have been the best-performing non-Big Six side, taking 42 points from Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Liverpool, with an average of 1.62 points per game.
Although the Cherries aren't too far away from them, collecting from 26 matches, or 1.35 points per game. Statistically, Brentford are the worst-performing side of the three of them, taking 22 points from 26 games, with an average of 0.85 points per game
Whilst Brighton and Bournemouth's record against the big six is quite impressive, Brentford's just doesn't match up to the level of the other sides, but all sides have got to where they are today, in their own way, with the most common method, scouting young foreign talent for cheap and selling them on for huge profits to bigger sides, with Ben White, Antoine Semenyo, Joao Pedro, and Marc Cucurella being high-level examples.
