Chelsea are set to take on Southampton this week on a quick turnaround from their devastating loss to Aston Villa on Saturday. The Blues lost thanks to an error from Filip Jorgensen but there were plenty of other players at fault for the loss as well as the finishing and defending was poor.
On the bright side, there are not many better options to help Chelsea get back on track than a Southampton side that is looking historically bad this season. This might be hard to believe because of how poor the Saints have been, but seventh place Chelsea and 20th place Southampton have the same amount of wins in their last five Premier League matches.
The Saints have won just 2 matches out of 26 and have collected a measly 9 points with 3 draws and 21 losses. Southampton are the most generous side in the Premier League as they have given up an abysmal 61 goals in those 26 matches and have scored just 19 for a -42 goal difference. The Blues will need to bounce back and they have a great chance to do so against a team that has all but secured relegation with 12 matches to go.

Team News
Chelsea team news:
The Blues lost another defender in the Aston Villa match with Trevoh Chalobah going down inside 10 minutes so we will likely see Tosin Adarabioyo alongside Levi Colwill in central defense. We also likely won’t see Reece James start the match considering the quick turnaround from Saturday where he played 90 minutes. We will also be curious to see if the manager’s faith in Filip Jorgensen holds true after his howler.
OUT: Noni Madueke (thigh), Romeo Lavia (thigh), Nicolas Jackson (thigh), Wesley Fofana (hamstring), Mykhailo Mudryk (suspension), Benoit Badiashile (thigh), Omari Kellyman (thigh), Marc Guiu (groin) | QUESTIONABLE: Trevoh Chalobah
Southampton team news:
There are fewer things more dangerous in football than a team with nothing to lose and that describes Southampton perfectly. They are not mathematically relegated but we can safely assume they will drop down a tier so they can play freely and without care as their fate is already sealed. They also have a fairly healthy squad so Chelsea will get their best.
QUESTIONABLE: Ryan Fraser (undisclosed), Adam Lallana (hamstring), Taylor Harwood-Bellis (ankle)
Chelsea vs Southampton prediction:
This is a match that the Blues should win comfortably considering their attacking talent and how generous the Southampton defense has been. Chelsea’s confidence is in the gutter but a couple early goals could help shake up the malaise and get things going again.
