Chelsea are already considering sending Jamie Gittens out on loan in January, just months after spending £50million to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
The winger has endured a frustrating start to life in west London, with injuries stopping him from making the impact that was expected of him. Now, several clubs, including some in the Premier League, are reportedly interested in offering him a way out.
It's not necessarily the beginning of the end for Gittens at Chelsea. The club still believe in his potential, but they know that he needs regular football if he is going to fulfil it.
Several clubs want to sign Jamie Gittens
According to TEAMtalk, Roma are among the clubs exploring a January loan move for Gittens, with Leeds United, Sunderland, Everton and Crystal Palace also monitoring the situation.
Roma have turned their attention towards the Chelsea winger while looking for alternatives to Real Madrid's Endrick.
There is also interest from Germany, with RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt understood to have made enquiries about the possibility of bringing Gittens back to the Bundesliga.
Chelsea are open to allowing the 22-year-old to leave on loan, with the priority being to find him a club where he can play regularly.
The former Borussia Dortmund winger has yet to feature for a single Premier League minute this season and is currently recovering from an ankle problem. His progress has been disrupted by fitness issues since arriving in 2025, forcing him to fall down the pecking order under Xabi Alonso.
TEAMtalk have reported that Chelsea still see a future for Gittens at Stamford Bridge, despite being prepared to sanction a loan move.
Chelsea must give Gittens a chance to rebuild
It's impossible not to understand Chelsea's decision.
Gittens arrived with plenty of promise after impressing at Borussia Dortmund, but he has barely had the chance to show what he can do in a Chelsea shirt. Injuries have clearly played a part, and spending another few months sitting on the bench won't help him rediscover his best form.
A successful loan move would be exactly what everyone needs.
There is still a talented player in there, and Chelsea would be foolish to give up on him after such a short period. He is also still only 22 and has already demonstrated that he can perform at a high level in the Bundesliga.
The important thing is finding the right club where he can thrive. Chelsea need to send him somewhere he will actually play.
There is also an argument that the Blues should have been more patient with their £50m investment. However, with Estevao, Pedro Neto and other attacking options competing for places, the kind of chances Gittens needs are not guaranteed.
The 22-year-old needs minutes, and Chelsea need to see what he can become with a consistent run of games.
