Typically, when footballers sign a new contract, they will announce it on their own social media page, whether that be on Instagram or X, but Chelsea forward Joao Pedro explained his new six-year deal, with an option for another two years, on a platform that most football fans would not have expected him to do it on.
Joao Pedro joined Chelsea in 2025 from Brighton. Since then, the Brazilian has scored 26 goals for the Blues, the most for the club since his joining them, with Cole Palmer the closest behind Joao Pedro with 18.
The Blues beat Newcastle to the signing of the forward when they took him from Brighton for £60 million, and he has been worth every penny. In August, Joao Pedro announced he was signing a new long-term deal at the club, and earlier this week he took to LinkedIn to express his gratitude to Chelsea fans and explain why he wanted to stay at Stamford Bridge.
"Joining Chelsea Football Club was a huge moment for me, and looking back at everything that has happened since, I’m proud of how far we’ve come."
Joao Pedro went on to say that one of the reasons he joined Chelsea in the first place was due to the club's pedigree, as well as the history and pressure that joining Chelsea brings, alongside the family he's now gained during his first season at Stamford Bridge.
"I knew I was joining one of the biggest clubs in the world, with huge ambition and a special history. What I didn’t know was how quickly the club, the people here and life in London would become such an important part of my life."
Since the departure of Roman Abramovich and the introduction of Todd Boehly and BlueCo, although BlueCo have left the club now, the club have gone through a bit of a lean patch in terms of Premier League finishes, with Chelsea finishing tenth in the last two Premier League seasons, and only winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup in the previous four seasons.
But regardless of the lack of success and continuity with the managers and the constant coming and going of players, Pedro believes that the project that he's currently a part of at Chelsea will work out in the coming years.
"I think there is a lot to consider when deciding whether to stay or take on something new. Progress doesn’t always mean choosing something different. Sometimes it’s recognising when you’re surrounded by the right people, still learning, still being challenged and still excited by what you’re building together."
"I believe in where this club is going, I believe in the people around me and I want to be part of what comes next."
Many Chelsea fans will hope that Pedro, alongside the other talented attackers the Blues have at their disposal, will get the club back to its glory days and winning trophies.
