When news first came out about Joao Pedro missing the squad for the game against Brentford on October 10 and shortly after withdrawing from Brazil's squad for the ongoing international break, Chelsea fans thought that it was just a precaution and would be fit for the game against Bournemouth, when Premier League football returns.
But a report from The Standard's Dom Smith revealed that Pedro has been going to see a specialist over the international break regarding his current knee injury; initial reports were that he would be sidelined for up to four weeks, with him seeing the specialist to try and speed up his recovery.
It was reported that Pedro began feeling some discomfort during the 2-2 draw with Hull. As a precaution, Xabi Alonso opted not to risk the forward for the 3-0 defeat to Brentford. With non-international players given time off during the break, Pedro was able to see a specialist while continuing to be monitored by Chelsea’s medical staff.
With the initial diagnosis being that the Brazilian would not miss many games for Chelsea as his injury timeframe would'nt be that long due to the extent of the injury, but with these new developments it may seem that the 25 year old may miss more time than initially expected.
Attacking trio
The newly named Chelsea trio of JP Morgan, consisting of Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer, have started the season on fire, with the three of them contributing to 80 per cent of Chelsea's league goals so far this campaign, with Pedro Neto and Romeo Lavia being the other ones to get on the scoresheet.
Although shortly after being announced in Thomas Tuchel's England squad, Cole Palmer had to withdraw after new injury news, not due to Chelsea managing his minutes and avoiding him getting injured, but is expected to return for his club after the international break finishes.
Pedro has been one of the standout performers during the early stages of Xabi Alonso’s first season, registering three goals and three assists across Chelsea’s opening five Premier League games and picking up the August Player of the Month award along the way.
What will worry Chelsea fans the most about the news is that they saw how the Blues performed with new signing Danny Welbeck up front in their game at the GTech Community Stadium before the international break. If Joao Pedro were to miss an extended period of time, then fans would worry about their attacking output without the influential forward in their squad.
