John Terry is regarded as one of the greatest players in Chelsea history, having led the club to numerous titles throughout his time at Stamford Bridge. He appeared 717 times for the Blues, scoring 67 goals and became the club's third most capped player ever. He also won five Premier League titles for the club, five FA Cups, the Champions League and several other trophies.
The former Chelsea and England captain recently talked about various aspects of how he has been impressed with Enzo Maresca's efforts at the club. And also about what it would take to win the Premier League title again.
Chelsea indeed were one of the busiest clubs during the summer transfer window, signing several young, talented players including Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Estevao, Alejandro Garnacho and more. But it was Liverpool, who made headlines by spending a staggering sum of money on new recruits such as Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and others.
On being asked how Chelsea can win their first Premier League title since 2017, Terry told talkSPORT:
"I’d love to see us in the mix for big signings if we want to be back to our very best and at the top winning Premier Leagues year after year.
“I think the only thing we’re missing at the moment is those marquee signings."
John Terry names one thing Chelsea must do to win Premier League
Chelsea have made a solid start to the Premier League season and sat at second after three matchdays, just two points behind defending champions Liverpool, despite several major injuries. The Blues returned from the international break with additional injury concerns, but will aim to put that behind them as they prepare to face Brentford on Saturday.
It remains to be seen how this young and inexperienced team deals with all these injury problems. This could be a good learning curve for them.
That being said, sooner or later, Chelsea need to put some weight on experience and proven quality as well and bring in some marquee signings to Stamford Bridge. That would immediately put them in the title picture.
