Are Chelsea in the race to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid? The Brazilian international has had a tough time since Xabi Alonso replaced Carlo Ancelotti as manager. This season, he has made 13 appearances but started only three of those games. He has not registered a goal or an assist when it comes to league competition.

Naturally, there are question marks around Rodrygo's long-term future at Real Madrid. Chelsea are a club that have been linked with the Real Madrid winger, who has played a key role in two of their Champions League-winning campaigns.

This Chelsea team is filled with youngsters. They do need some experience and proven quality. But at the same time, one cannot forget that Rodrygo is still just 24 years of age and can be considered a 'youngster' himself.

It would take a significant transfer fee to convince Real Madrid to part ways with Rodrygo though. And one would imagine that the player himself would demand a big contract as well. Chelsea have not done deals like that since the summer of 2022.

So, are Chelsea out of the race for the Real Madrid winger? Matt Law appears to believe so. He said while speaking on the London is Blue Podcast:

"I can't see any world in which Rodrygo becomes of interest to Chelsea. Salary, position, recent history of how his career has gone. Also the players that Chelsea have invested in in similar positions. Don't see it at all."

That does make sense. If Chelsea are going to break their transfer structure, and they don't seem to have any plans of doing so, Rodrygo might not be the player to do that for.

To be honest, we have never felt that Rodrygo is someone who would come in and be a game-changer for Chelsea. Perhaps we are wrong about this, but it has never really felt like he is one of the top players on the planet, at least on a consistent basis.

Admittedly, there are spells every season when he looks absolutely phenomenal, contributing with both goals and assists. But then, inevitably, there are also months at a time when he struggles to make any sort of an impact on the team.

If you want to be considered amongst the best in the world, you need to be consistent above everything else. And Rodrygo simply is not that.
