The football transfer business is never really quiet, even though we might not be in the middle of a window. Deals can be agreed on for the future. And contract situations evolve throughout the year. That might be the case with one of football's most highly-rated talents right now and it might work out in the favour of Chelsea for a change.
Chelsea have constantly signed highly-rated young talents during the Boehly-Clearlake ownership era. Some of these moves have worked out, like Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo, but most have not. That has not been enough to sway the club from their transfer strategy.
One of the next targets for them appears to be Kenan Yildiz. The Turkish wonderkid was touted to be the face of Juventus for years to come. But now, there seems to be uncertainty about that as his contract situation is up in the air and could lead to an eventual exit.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel regarding the situation of Yildiz and potential interest from the Premier League:
"What I can tell you is that my information is that the real interest is coming from Premier League. Premier League clubs are following and tracking Kenan Yildiz. Premier League top clubs are keeping a close eye on Yildiz.
“Now it’s too early to mention names. This is not a deal for January at all. So this is going to be eventually a topic for the summer.
“If Juventus won’t be able to reach an agreement with Kenan over a new contract, this depends."
'Keeping a close eye' - Fabrizio Romano drops update on £80m Chelsea target
Chelsea are expected to be one of those teams keeping an eye on Yildiz's situation, considering how consistently they have been linked with the Juventus ace for the past several months. Let's see if this situation develops further from here.
On the other hand, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport (via TEAMtalk), ‘alarm bells are ringing’ at Juventus. The Turin-based side are refusing to meet Yildiz’s wage demands, with both parties now ‘reconsidering’ their stances.
Of course, this uncertainty around Yildiz's Juventus future will be encouraging for Chelsea. Even if he becomes available, it will take a significant fee to sign him. But then, the Blues have shown that they are not afraid to splash out if they are convinced about a player. Enzo Fernandez and Caicedo are great examples of that stance.
