It will be very interesting to see how Chelsea approach the January transfer window. Of course, they were not too active in the summer, especially considering what we have seen in the past under the new ownership. They were working under financial constraints though and should be in a much better position now, having sanctioned so many departures.
They were not able to find new homes for all of their players though. And one would hope that their exits can be finalised in January, as they are not doing much of note at the club right now.
As reported by SportsBoom, Leeds United and Crystal Palace are preparing to compete for the signature of Raheem Sterling. The Peacocks hope to convince him with regular first-team football, while the Eagles, being located in London, might give them an edge.
It is believed that Sterling is keen to remain in London. That being said, having not played any football for months now, one would imagine that he would be more willing to compromise if he wants to return to the pitch.
Leeds United eyeing blockbuster January move for Chelsea player
Sterling was one of the top players in world football and even considered a Ballon d'Or contender at one point in time, while he was at Manchester City. But his run at Chelsea has been one to forget for sure.
He spent the previous campaign out on loan at Arsenal and there were hopes that he would be able to rediscover his best form. Instead, he delivered another poor season of football and at 30 years of age, is not someone many clubs are willing to or capable of taking a risk on.
Let's see how things play out from here. Both Leeds United and Crystal Palace could be good options for Sterling for a variety of reasons. Chelsea will be hoping to get a permanent transfer but would have to be open-minded about a loan deal as well, considering the circumstances.
