The 23-year-old managed just three goals in nearly 50 appearances and looks devoid of all confidence.
As a result, the former Ipswich Town striker is expected to leave west London — permanently or on loan — before the close of the summer transfer window.
Everton clear favourites to sign Liam Delap
Even though Delap had an awful 2025-26 season, he isn't short of options.
The 23-year-old's agents have already held talks with several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
However, according to TEAMtalk, it is David Moyes' Everton who are the clear favourites to sign Chelsea's number nine.
Moyes has already been busy during the summer transfer window, making five signings, including a swap deal with Crystal Palace involving Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil.
And the Scotsman isn't done yet. Moyes wants Delap to lead the line at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and believes he's the right manager to help the struggling Englishman fulfill his potential.
For Delap, his main motivation will be to get back into the England picture. The former Manchester City graduate was viewed as the Three Lions' next big striker not so long ago, but a poor run of form has seen him forced to consider switching international alliance to the Republic of Ireland.
Delap makes his feelings on leaving Chelsea clear
Despite being at one of the country's biggest clubs, Delap knows he has to play somewhere else if he's to stand any chance of regaining his best form.
He is certain not to be Xabi Alonso's main striker and, if he sticks around, will be forced to rely on substitute appearances to impress.
Although Delap has suitors from abroad, including Cesc Fagregas' Como, according to these latest reports, the 23-year-old has already informed the Blues his preference is to move up north, suggesting he's open to playing under Moyes.
Chelsea are believed to want to recoup as much of the ÂŁ40 million they paid Ipswich Town for him last year as possible.
Following his high profile transfer just over 12 months ago, Delap, who has five years left on his ÂŁ100,000-per week contract, has been directly involved in eight goals in 47 appearances in all competitions.
He would leave Stamford Bridge having been part of the Chelsea squad that lifted the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
