Liverpool have entered the race to sign Stefanos Tzimas from Nurnberg, with Chelsea listed as one of the other clubs interested in the transfer.
Surprisingly, Chelsea have not made any signings in the January transfer window. Given their track record over the last few years, the Blues were tipped to be active in the current window. Yet, they have not officially signed anyone as it stands.
In truth, Enzo Maresca doesn't need to be in any rush to bring players in. This likely explains Chelsea's inactivity at this stage in the window. Indeed, this month and change should instead be about trimming the squad down to compete between now and the end of the season.
After 21 games played, Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League table. However, Newcastle are yet to play their 21st game and if the Magpies win this, then they will push Chelsea out of the top four.
Therefore, Chelsea's stance on transfers might change between now and the end of the window. We will see, in that regard.
Liverpool enter the race to sign £20m Chelsea transfer target
According to a report from Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool have now entered the race to sign Stefanos Tzimas from 2. Bundesliga side Nurnberg.
This is concerning news for Chelsea, who have also shown an interest in the Greek forward. With Christopher Nkunku potentially on his way to Bayern Munich, the Blues would like to sign a promising forward to live up to the potential he failed to reach.
Tzimas is still just 19-years-old and despite playing in the second tier of German football, is attracting interest from a handful of clubs in Europe. It is believed that his transfer could raise around £20m, a fee which Chelsea would definitely be able to afford.
It is important to note, furthermore, that Chelsea or any club would not sign Tzimas until the summer transfer window, despite the interest occurring right now. This is because Tzimas is only at Nurnberg on loan. However, they could make a quick profit by signing him permanently before selling him.
