Manchester City are looking to return to the top of the Premier League after enduring a rare off-season. Many people seem to be writing Pep Guardiola's side off heading into this season, which seems to be premature, considering how successful they have been over the years. It is unsurprising that they are being linked with moves for Gianluigi Donnarumma and Rodrygo. And a Chelsea target appears to be on their radar as well, even though the Blues have agreed personal terms already.

While Chelsea have been rapid when it comes to getting exits agreed, the same cannot be said about their pace when it comes to making signings. For weeks, we have been hearing about rumours linking them with Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, but nothing concrete has happened yet, although talks are underway.

That might allow other teams to swoop in. Chelsea cannot afford to let things drag on. Especially after the latest rumour that has cropped up.

As reported by talkSPORT, Manchester City are contemplating overtaking Chelsea's proposed deal for Simons. The Dutch international has agreed personal terms with the Stamford Bridge outfit but but the clubs are yet to reach an agreement.

Some Chelsea fans have been worried about this move for a little while now, as the speculation has somewhat faded a bit instead of picking up momentum. There have been the same updates of there being talks over a deal and Simons wanting a move to Stamford Bridge, but not much progress appears to have been made.

Of course, it has been claimed that Chelsea are waiting to transfer their current players before signing Simons. But then, we have seen plenty head for the exit door lately, like Armando Broja, Lesley Ugochukwu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and more. Yet, the move for the Dutchman has not materialised.

Naturally, there are fears that we could see this proposed transfer collapse. Especially now that Manchester City are being linked with him as well.
