Manchester City are one of the best teams in world football. They might have had an off 24/25 campaign but it feels like many fans have been quick to write them off before this season. Do not be surprised if Pep Guardiola's side turn around and put up another Premier League challenge. They certainly looked up for it on matchday one with a 4-0 away win against Wolves. And it looks like they have set their eyes on a Chelsea player.

In recent years, Mateo Kovacic is someone who has made the move from Chelsea to Manchester City. On the other hand, the influence of Guardiola's team is easily visible at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer is the face of the club while Enzo Maresca, Guardiola's former assistant, is Chelsea's manager. The likes of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Tosin Adarabioyo were in the Manchester City academy.

Now, it looks like Manchester City could be looking to turn the tables and have set their sights on one of Chelsea's brightest academy graduates in recent years. But a move might not be on the cards.

As reported by The Guardian, Manchester City are interested in signing Josh Acheampong. Chelsea are expected to reject any moves for the defender. Bournemouth and Newcastle United also hold an interest in him.

Acheampong's role in the Chelsea team is expected to grow this season. Interestingly, he could play more of his football as a centre-back than a right-back moving forward.

Acheampong did look pretty comfortable centrally in pre-season. Of course, it is different doing it in a competitive Premier League game. But he certainly seems to possess the talent to get it done.

Also, it might be the call of the hour. Levi Colwill could be out for the entire campaign. Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to miss Chelsea's season opener against Crystal Palace. Benoit Badiashile is still recovering from an injury, while Wesley Fofana did not take part in pre-season. Even Trevoh Chalobah seemed to pick up a knock against AC Milan and might not be fully fit this weekend. So, do not be surprised if Acheampong ends up getting a start.

Maresca has seemed keen for the club to bring in another centre-back following Colwill's ACL injury. But if someone like Acheampong can impress early on in the season then they might be able to change the manager's mind.
