Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea with expectations of having a big season, and many at Stamford Bridge would have forgiven him for taking some time to settle in. However, that has certainly not been the case.
Rogers appeared to make it clear that he was not prepared to wait around for Arsenal, making Chelsea his priority before joining from Aston Villa in a British-record £117 million transfer. Since making the move, he has quickly won over the fans and is already showing why Chelsea were willing to spend so heavily on him.
Across his first four Premier League games of the season, Rogers has scored or assisted in every match. Against Hull City, João Pedro sent him through on goal before the attacking midfielder kept his composure and drilled a low finish into the corner. It was another example of the clinical edge Rogers has brought to Chelsea, giving the Blues the lead.
It was a goal that again was struck early and proved crucial, as it marked the first Premier League goal Hull City had allowed all season after an initial defensive shutout. Impressive feat this season but it was a goal that allowed him to joing some Chelsea legends.
Chelsea legend in the making?
That goal, along with his other two goals and an assist across the opening four games, has seen Rogers join some Chelsea heroes in achieving a remarkable club record. He has become just the fifth different player in Chelsea's storied Premier League history to record either a goal or an assist in each of the first four games of a top-flight season.
Rogers now follows in the illustrious footsteps of Didier Drogba, Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Eden Hazard. All four players went on to win the Premier League and more silverware with Chelsea, raising the exciting possibility that Rogers could follow the same path and eventually lift the Premier League trophy with the Blues.
Now, that is perhaps a little hopeful after a disappointing display against newly promoted Hull, in a game Chelsea should have dominated and won. However, it was not to be. At least we have a new star to worship and sing about in the stands.
