Neto may now replace Sancho but Madueke to keep place as injury noted
Judging by the comments of a notable, former Premier League attacker, it is possible that Chelsea star Pedro Neto could now replace teammate and fellow wingers' union member, Jadon Sancho. The latter was substituted at half-time versus Liverpool by Blues manager Enzo Maresca after an uneven performance which lacked bite. Neto, the Englishman's replacement, was arguably more influential in the Reds clash and could begin the next English top-flight fixture which is against Newcastle United on Sunday. Before that, the west Londoners meet Panathinaikos on Thursday in the Europa Conference League. So look out for the Portuguese in those games.
In the meantime, it has been widely acknowledged that Maresca made mistakes on the touchline during the visit to Anfield. One substitution in particular irked some of the CFC fan base. Many fans believe Noni Madueke was the main threat possessed by the away team on the day. The wily wingman is now expected to keep his starting position in the Chelsea line-up after the premature withdrawal. In addition to those topics, there is more. What injury boost have the famous capital outfit received ahead of their midweek trip to Athens Olympic Stadium? And will the comeback affect the XI?
Filip Jorgensen may be available for selection once more
Jorgensen was inexplicably absent from the Chelsea group for the Merseyside encounter. However, it is now reported that the highly rated Denmark Under-21 international was in fact carrying a knock. Yet it must not be too bad a problem, because the goalkeeper should be fit for the Panathinaikos contest this week.
Pedro Neto may come into the side following decent showing when introduced vs Liverpool
Sancho has remained technically sound for Chelsea, if not that explosive in my view. Maybe hooking him was the right call from Maresca, and maybe it wasn't. We'll never know.
What we do know, or what a few people claim, is that effective understudy Pedro Neto made the most of his opportunity. And ex-Everton man Leon Osman believes the Portugal forward 'influenced' proceedings more than the one-time Manchester United player. Does this take indicate further playing time for the Wolverhampton Wanderers old boy?
Noni Madueke assertion
We all saw that Andy Robertson was scared to death of Madueke at the weekend. The Scottish footballer was likely delighted when his dangerously quick and adroit opponent went off. The Blues consequently went quiet; an indication that Madueke will retain his place as well.
