Chelsea have already gotten a lot of transfer business done this summer. But before the window closes, there is a lot more that the Blues could end up getting done. On one hand, it is believed that they have their eyes firmly set on signing Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho. Another centre-back could be on the wishlist as well following Levi Colwill's injury.
On the other hand, there are a few big-name players who could still head for the exit door. One of them is Nicolas Jackson, Chelsea's starting centre-forward for the previous two seasons.
Signed from Villarreal for around £30 million, Jackson was given two years to lead the line for the Blues. He showed a lot of glimpses of his quality as well. But over those two seasons, he has not managed to improve in his finishing and discipline.
This summer, Chelsea have gone out and signed Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. On the other hand, it looks like Jackson might have decided that it is time for him to leave Chelsea. Earlier in the summer, it was believed that the Blues were not eager for him to leave, but now, it appears that that stance has changed and they are open to the prospect.
Newcastle United willing to make £60m move for Chelsea player
As reported by TEAMtalk, Newcastle United remain in the picture for Jackson. The Magpies are not deterred by the asking price and are willing to match it. Chelsea are likely to settle for a fee close to £60 million.
It is believed that Eddie Howe is convinced that Jackson has the traits to fill the role of Alexander Isak. Of course, it is easy to raise one's eyebrows at that though.
But when you look at the numbers, other than conversion rate, Jackson is pretty close to Isak in most other metrics and actually better than him aerially and in duels. So, if the Senegalese striker can someday find his finishing boots, he might just turn out to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League. That is a big 'if' though, from what we have seen over the past two seasons.
