Chelsea have plenty of attacking talent capable of grabbing the headlines, but their win over Everton on Saturday was a reminder that the most important moments don't always come from the players you'd expect.

Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Moises Caicedo all caught the eye at Hill Dickinson Stadium, yet it was one of Chelsea's more divisive players who made the difference in the end.

And Owen Hargreaves believes he deserves far more recognition for what he brings to Xabi Alonso's side.

Owen Hargreaves makes his feelings clear after Chelsea win

Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Everton thanks to two goals from Pedro Neto, who was clinical in the box at every opportunity.

The Portugal international broke the deadlock just after half-time, finishing a move involving Jorrel Hato before adding a second late on to put the result beyond doubt.

It was exactly the kind of decisive performance Chelsea needed after a frustrating first half, and Hargreaves was quick to highlight Neto's performance while covering the game on TNT Sports.

“I thought Morgan Rogers was terrific, Cole Palmer was terrific, Caicedo had a big impact, but the big moments have belonged to that man there, Pedro Neto; definitely an unsung hero in this Chelsea team," the ex-Manchester United midfielder said at full-time (via Talk Chelsea).

Hargreaves' take is fair and probably just, interestingly because Neto has not always enjoyed universal support from Chelsea fans.

His pace and willingness to take on defenders are obvious strengths, but his end product has often been questioned; perhaps rightly so at times.

However, scoring twice in a difficult away fixture is a pretty effective way to silence those doubts. Neto did not just contribute to Chelsea's performance; he won the game.

Xabi Alonso could be getting the best out of Neto

There may be a tactical reason why Neto appears to be thriving under Alonso.

The new Chelsea manager has used him in a wider role, giving him space to attack defenders and use his pace rather than constantly receiving the ball with an opponent already blocking his path.

That can make a significant difference to a player whose greatest strength is driving at opposition defenders. Neto looks far more dangerous when he has room to accelerate into, and his display against Everton offered another example of what he can produce in those situations.

Of course, one excellent performance doesn't erase every inconsistency in his game. Chelsea need Neto to deliver this level more regularly if they are going to challenge at the top end of the Premier League.

But Hargreaves' comments highlight something fans probably shouldn't be so quick to overlook. While Palmer and Rogers attract plenty of attention, Neto has the ability to provide the decisive moments that turn promising performances into victories.

If Alonso keeps getting the best out of him, Chelsea may have a bigger weapon in their attack than some people realise.
