Ajax 0-3 Chelsea Women: 3 standouts, Blues take comfortable lead back to London

In the first competitive fixture between these two European outfits, Chelsea Women eased past the defending Dutch league champions Ajax thanks to a double by red-hot Sjoeke Nusken.

3. Guro Reiten

Whenever you get Reiten letting out a roar, you know it's a good day. Sure, her goal didn't count, but that emotion in the Champions League should make every CFCW fan want to run through a wall. The "Irn-Bru" Erin Cuthbert recently made her try had to have played a part in No. 11's latest positive UWCL display.

Per Harry Edwards, yesterday was remarkably her 150th appearance in blue. The Norwegian was a constant threat down the left flank in the Netherlands, manufacturing the most big chances in the match. Her pinpoint first-half service to Nusken was her fourth goal contribution in her last three games in Europe. That want to keep possession at the top of the box allowed for James to execute the first breakthrough. Reiten's three key passes and five crosses led the team. Right back Milicia Keijzer did not have her best night, ultimately looking frustrated by the Norweigan's presence. Nobody was dribbled past more on the night than the 20-year-old defender Keijzer.

2. Sjoeke Nusken

What positions can't she play? Well, from what we've seen, the answer is clear...there isn't one she can't thrive in.

"She plays as an 8 she's just as good...she plays at center half she's just as good," Hayes said. "I might give her a game in goal next week."

All joking aside, Nusken has been arguably the signing of the season for Chelsea, coming over from Germany after predominantly serving as one of Eintracht Frankfurt's center-backs. Talk about a coach's dream. No matter where the injury crisis hits the hardest, Nusken has been able to patch up the holes wherever necessary. Those finishes in front of a massive crowd epitomized her intelligence and desire as a footballer. One authoritative header. One sliding finish that put a dagger in the hearts of the home side.

We knew she was versatile, but she's making switching positions look almost elementary. Less than 10 days before, Nusken controlled the backline with class in Northern England. Nusken played somewhat of a creative No. 10 in possession while sitting as one of the two in Chelsea's 4-4-2 without the ball. She was seen just behind James at times, converting two scoring opportunities for the second fixture running. Reminder: she's still 23. The German international created two chances on the night while leading her side along with James in total shots. Not to be forgotten, Nusken still won the second-most ground duels of anyone in blue last night.
