3. Moises Caicedo’s Grit in Midfield

Despite arriving late from international duty in South America, Caicedo was excellent in midfield, battling fatigue and jet lag. With Enzo Fernández absent due to illness, the Ecuadorian had his work cut out for him, made harder by some errant passing from his teammates. Nevertheless, Chelsea’s record signing delivered a solid performance in the middle of the park.

4. The Class of Christopher Nkunku

Some players simply ooze quality, and Christopher Nkunku is one of them. Unlike Nicolas Jackson, who had several chances but was wasteful in front of goal, Nkunku only needed one opportunity and made it count. If he can stay fit this season, Chelsea will greatly benefit from his clinical finishing.

5. Enzo Maresca’s Substitutions

The Italian manager was proactive with his substitutions, recognizing that things weren’t working and acting quickly to change the game. His decisions were vindicated, as two second-half substitutes—Jadon Sancho and Christopher Nkunku—combined for the winning goal. Additionally, Tosin Adarabioyo brought much-needed calmness and control to a previously shaky defense.

6. Jadon Sancho’s Debut

Sancho made a memorable debut in Chelsea colors. He looked lively, constantly taking on defenders and displaying his excellent vision by setting up Nkunku for the winner. Fans got a glimpse of the qualities that made him one of Europe’s most exciting young talents during his time in Germany. This performance will give him a confidence boost as he embarks on his Chelsea journey.
