Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea : Blues positives and negatives
By Vishnu Raj
Negatives
1. Defensive Chaos on the Right Side
Chelsea struggled defensively, particularly on the right side, where Bournemouth repeatedly threatened. By the end of the first half, the hosts had over 20 touches in Chelsea’s box, compared to just five for the Blues. Axel Disasi, starting at right-back in place of the injured Malo Gusto and Reece James, had a nightmare performance. His passing was erratic, and his tracking back was worryingly slow. Fortunately, Chelsea escaped without conceding from that side. Wesley Fofana and Renato Veiga were also guilty of giving the ball away under little pressure, leaving Moises Caicedo to bail out his teammates multiple times.
Chelsea simply cannot afford another performance like this. Luck won't always be on their side. Defending with such disorganization at the back puts the team at serious risk, undermining any progress they’re trying to make. If they continue in this manner, they’re in danger of moving backward, rather than building towards a more cohesive and successful unit.
2. Absence of Enzo Fernández
Fernández’s absence due to illness was felt keenly in midfield. His ability to control the tempo and steady the game would have been invaluable in calming Chelsea’s often frantic play. His return will be crucial for Maresca’s side moving forward.
