Robert Sanchez was also a key figure in this game. He made every save he was required to make and ensured the away side walked away with a much-needed clean sheet. Sanchez's penalty save was particularly crucial, as a goal conceded at that point would have made winning an uphill task.

The Bad: Defending

Chelsea's defending was poor against Bournemouth. Allowing 19 shots in one game is a lot, doing it against the Cherries is particularly unforgivable, especially because Maresca said the Blues have been working on their defending during the international break. If this is what it looks like when they have worked on it for 2 weeks, you dread to see what it looks like when it's not being worked on.

CFC allowed 19 shots, totaling 1.78 xG. The xG is severely impacted by the penalty, but the penalty in and of itself, is an indictment. The West Londoners also allowed the home side shots from very comfortable positions, as Iraola's men were good for seven shots on target, not to mention the two shots that hit the post or the crossbar.

These defensive issues have plagued the Blues since the start of preseason, and yet six games into the season, the problems are still there.
