Chelsea 5-0 West Ham: Blues player ratings

Three days ago Chelsea F.C. earned an impressive 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge over their hated London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Today they followed that up with a 5-0 thrashing of another London club West Ham United. Lately, things have been on the up for the Blues, they have won two straight games by a combined score of 7-0, and have lost only one EPL game in their last 12. After today’s victory over the Hammers, CFC currently sits in seventh in the Premier League table just two points behind Newcastle United who are in sixth.

Today’s performance was a game where Chelsea fans could relax, and just enjoy their team completely dominating from start to finish. Not once did it seem like the Blues weren’t going to win this game. Here are the player ratings from today’s match:

Đorđe Petrović: 8.1/10

You may be thinking how could you only give Petrović an 8.1 out of 10 when he gets a clean sheet? Well, a big reason for that was West Ham were so lifeless going forward most of the game that the former New England Revolution goalkeeper didn’t have much to do. But he did his job, he saved the two shots on goal that he faced, and he completed 94% of the passes he made.

Trevoh Chalobah (83’): 7.7/10

While he didn’t have a goal contribution like he did in the last game against Spurs, Chalobah put together another solid performance. This time he played as a right back, which is not his best position but certainly one he can play. Against West Ham, his best moment was the terrific long ball he delivered to Noni Madueke in the 48th minute which set up the fourth goal. Other than that, Chalobah’s passing was crisp throughout the game, and defensively he was steady.

Thiago Silva (82’): 8.3/10

The 39-year-old Brazilian today showed that despite his age, he looked like a man amongst boys. One word that comes to mind when discussing Thiago Silva is steady because that’s what he is. He won all three of his duels and tackles and completed 99% of his passes. However, the biggest contribution he made was in the 35th minute when he won a header on a corner that he passed to Madueke for a 3-0 lead. The Blues will miss him next season as he heads back to Brazilian club Fluminense.

Benoit Badiashile: 8.2/10

In a limited amount of game time, due to poor form and injuries, Benoit Badiashile’s sophomore season for CFC hasn’t been easy. But today was a bright spot, he looked comfortable on the ball, and defensively he did a good job of not getting beat. Completing 92% of his passes, he had four interceptions and three clearances. The big thing for Badiashile is avoiding mistakes today he did that.

Marc Cucurella: 8/10

Another player who has been much maligned for his performances for Chelsea has been Marc Cucurella. But his last two performances against Tottenham and today against West Ham have been drastically better. The former Brighton & Hove Albion left-back was lively today defensively and going forward. He did commit a yellow card but it wasn’t a terrible challenge. The Spaniard won three tackles, made eight recoveries, and won seven duels.Â
