Chelsea fans need to slow down on the Jadon Sancho hype train

Jadon Sancho featured in the second half of Chelsea's Premier League win against Bournemouth. The 24-year-old provided the assist to Christopher Nkunku's goal that confirmed the three points for the Blues.

Sancho came to Chelsea on loan after a spell of turmoil with Manchester United. The English winger was sent on loan by the Red Devils during the winter transfer window, but he returned after a successful spell with Borussia Dortmund.

His problems with Erik Ten Hag are well-documented and although it seemed like they had sorted their issues, the club wanted to sell him in the summer transfer window. That was when Chelsea came in and tried to swoop him. The club agreed on a loan deal, which, according to reports, is just a mere formality as the clauses for this to become a permanent deal could be met easily.

Sancho's flying start to his CFC career has got all the fans excited. Many believe that the English winger could be the player to solve the left-wing problems. However, if the past has taught us anything, it is that judging a player too soon has never ended well. Although the former United man has all the talent in the world to dazzle his way through defenders, he has not enjoyed a great run of consistently in the past two years.

His spell at Dortmund was the only time he looked like his usual self, but judging him based on his performance just in Germany would not be the wise thing to do. Manchester United brought him after he had shone in the Bundesliga, but he failed to display similar dominance in the Premier League, resulting in an eventual fallout with Ten Hag.

In his first full season with United, Sancho was able to score only five goals and bag three assists. His most successful year with the team was the following one where he scored seven and set up three goals. For a player who was averaging over 30 G/A in the Bundesliga, those numbers are extremely disappointing. But the fact of the matter is that Sancho is no more the same player that he once was.

The 24-year-old has lost the fiery pace that was a vital tool for him during his Germany days, which the Premier League defenders have caught up on. He has also shown a certain lack of confidence in taking his players on - a quality which made him the £80 million player.

Now the possibility of Sancho leaving his United days behind and firing on all cylinders for Chelsea is what most fans would want. He has started well, but getting on the hype train just after 45 minutes of action for a player who has not necessarily proven himself in the PL is not right.

The Blues have a lot of talent around him and although he is the player with a little more experience compared to the others, Sancho remains the player who needs a breakout season in England more desperately than the others. He certainly has the support of the fanbase and the manager Enzo Maresca seems to embrace his qualities as a player.

If the Englishman shines, the west Londoners will have certainly acquired a talent that could help them win trophies. He is technically sublime and has everything in his game to help unlock the potential of this young team.
