When Chelsea Football Club signed Marc Cucurella from Brighton and Hove Albion for 62m, the club and its fans expected plenty from the player. However, until now, his performances have received mixed reviews. While the full-back had a disastrous first season at Stamford Bridge, he has shown improvement in the ongoing season.

However, there are still many critiques of his performances, and one man who belongs to the same group is a fromer Chelsea player, John Obi Mikel. As per Mikel, Cucurella is not a player of Chelsea standards. During an episode of his podcast, the former CFC No. 12 compared Cucurella to some of the club's previous left backs. Mikel said:

"He is not Chelsea standard. I wouldn’t say that. When you look at the left-backs we have had, Ashley Cole, Cesar Azpilicueta, William Gallas, you are talking about these players who have stayed at the club for many years, played so many games, and the standard they have set for that position… for me, he’s not at Chelsea standard"

Since joining the Blues, many CFC fans registered their complaints about the Spanish player's performance. However, this season he has adapted to different roles and has done a good job under Mauricio Pochettino. It will be interesting to see if the former Brighton player can finish the season on a high.

How has Marc Cucurella performed for Chelsea Football Club this season?

As mentioned above, the ongoing Premier League season has been a sigh of relief for Marc Cucurella and Chelsea fans. Despite the club not having its best season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, Cucurella's performances have shown hope for the future. This season, the Spaniard has played both as a left-back and right-back. He has done equally well in both positions.

However, Cucurella has yet to establish himself as a standout player at the club. In Chelsea's last game against Everton which ended in a 2-0 defeat for the former, Cucurella looked decent defensively. But, things took a bad turn for the 25-year-old after he suffered a twisted ankle during the game. The seriousness of his injury is yet to be made known.
