Chelsea to raise more than £150 million this summer transfer window
Midfielders:
Since academy players and 'homegrown' athletes represent pure profit on the balance sheets, one of the most valuable stars which the club might sell this summer is Conor Gallagher. The English midfielder has probably been one of the best Chelsea player this season and with him entering the final year of his contract this summer, a big decision has to be made soon. Gallagher is believed to be valued at £45 million -£50 million and rivals Tottenham Hotspur tried signing him last summer. Very little progress has been made in terms of extending his contract even though reports are stating that the Blues midfielder wants to stay at the club. It firmly seems that the club hierarchy has not yet made up their mind whether to keep Gallagher at the club or not but if they do decide to sell him we can expect similar figures we received for Mason Mount last summer.
Transfer Fee: £45 million Wages: £2.60 million
Forwards:
Chelsea's forwards department has some clearing out to be done this summer transfer window. A couple of players which the club could not move on last window are Hakim Ziyech and Romelu Lukaku. The Moroccan winger was loaned out to Turkish side Galatasaray and has had a mixed season to say the least. The winger has missed 16 games due to foot and ankle injuries but has still managed to rack up eight goal contributions in 18 games he has played. This has certainly not been a jaw-dropping season but is hopefully enough to entice any European side to pay the club. There is an obligation to buy with the winger if certain conditions are met but the conditions are not yet clear. Anything less than £7 million will be that it would have to be recorded as a loss on the books and that figure seems difficult to recoup. Ziyech's contract runs out in June 2025 and it avoid him leaving for free next season, we can certainly expect the Moroccan to be sold this summer and his £5.2 million annual wages to be moved on.
Belgium striker Lukaku will be gone. Having made a record breaking move to Stamford Bridge in 2021-22 season, everything was looking up for him and the club. But that infamous interview with Sky Italia meant everything came crumbling down. Since then it must be said that the club has done well financially in terms of moving him out on loan on their own terms. First to Inter Milan and then to AS Roma where he is playing currently. Before being loaned out to Roma, the striker agreed to a new contract at the Blues which includes significant wage cuts (from £16.9 million annually to somewhere around £6 million annually) and a release clause of £37 million which the club will demand this summer. Lukaku has had a good season with the Italian side, contributing 22 goal involvements in 41 games throughout the season but with the tight money situation of AS Roma it seems difficult that the striker will be playing for the Giallorossi next season. Which team will come to Chelsea's aid next season is yet to be seen but Romelu Lukaku will certainly not be seen in a dark blue jersey anytime soon at Stamford Bridge.
