Cole Palmer was not given much of an opportunity to prove himself at EURO 2024 but when it mattered most, it was the Chelsea forward who stepped up. He scored an incredible goal to bring it level in the final and despite England losing the final, he proved to the next England manager that he should be considered in the front line.

From a Chelsea perspective, Cole Palmer did not forget his domestic ties. It has now been revealed that he spent some time talking another standout player for England into a potential Chelsea transfer.

According to a report from Football Insider, Cole Palmer has told Ollie Watkins to leave Aston Villa this summer and join Chelsea instead. The Aston Villa forward is linked with a move away this summer, with Chelsea one of the interested clubs.

Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins are believed to have struck a good friendship while on duty with the England national team. It must be noted that both players were used in a rotational role, with neither of them starting a single match.

Ollie Watkins had his moment in the semifinal, when he scored in injury time to bring England to a lead, which they saw out. It was an impeccable finish and one which nobody saw coming from the substitute. He proved that he is capable of coming up with a goal against all odds, an attribute which would surely be welcomed at Chelsea.

The report states that to tempt Watkins into signing for Chelsea, Cole Palmer said that the relationship that they both have on and off the field could propel Chelsea to new heights. Indeed, it was Cole Palmer who assisted Watkins for his goal in the semifinal.

If the two countrymen strike up a great relationship at Chelsea, then the sky truly is the limit for Enzo Maresca next season. However, the decision will come down to Ollie Watkins. Watkins helped Aston Villa to qualify for the Champions League last season so in many ways, he would be stepping down if he left the Villans for the Blues.
