Pride of London’s Chelsea Player of the Month for September 2024
By Karan Saini
Chelsea wrapped up September on a high, remaining unbeaten through five matches with four wins and a draw. Scoring 14 goals while conceding just three, the Blues found a balance between attack and defense, with standout moments from several players. Nicolas Jackson shone against West Ham, Christopher Nkunku bagged a hat-trick in the EFL Cup against Barrow, and Robert Sánchez made crucial saves at Vitality Stadium. Yet, Cole Palmer was the undisputed star of the month.
Palmer delivered an exceptional string of performances, proving to be Chelsea's key player throughout September. The highlight of his month was a stunning display at Stamford Bridge against Brighton & Hove Albion, where he netted four goals in just 19 minutes and 57 seconds—making him the second-fastest player in Premier League history to score four goals in a single match, just behind Jermain Defoe’s record. Palmer’s goals were a showcase of his versatility: a clinical penalty, a sharp near-post finish, a well-executed counterattack strike, and a magnificent free-kick.
Beyond his historic showing against Brighton, Palmer was consistently decisive. He assisted Nicolas Jackson's goal against Crystal Palace and scored against West Ham United, proving his value game after game. His contributions were critical in Chelsea's success, with five goals and one assist across the month.
Palmer’s four-goal feat also placed him among Chelsea’s elite. He became the second player after Frank Lampard to score four goals in two separate Premier League matches. His third league hat-trick saw him join Lampard, Didier Drogba, and Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink as Chelsea players with the most Premier League hat-tricks.
Remarkably, Palmer has accumulated 43 goal contributions in just 39 Premier League appearances for Chelsea. He is currently level with Erling Haaland for the most goal contributions in the league, with six goals and four assists to his name. Having signed a nine-year contract extension in August, Palmer is quickly establishing himself as Chelsea’s talisman.
For his outstanding performances, Cole Palmer is rightfully named the Pride of London’s Chelsea Player of the Month for September.
