Despite spending over £1 billion on new players since their arrival, Chelsea currently sit ninth in the table. While the club has emphasized their commitment to a long-term project, they will be disappointed with the progress under Pochettino this season. The Blues are 16 points off fourth place and had the opportunity to close the gap to just two points behind Manchester United in sixth, but once again squandered the chance against a team fighting relegation.
Just over a week ago, Chelsea struggled to defeat 10-man Burnley at Stamford Bridge, leading to calls from supporters for Pochettino to lose his job. A meeting will reportedly be held at the end of the campaign to discuss his future, but conceding points to the bottom team in the division is unlikely to be viewed as a sign of improvement by the club's hierarchy. In both games, CFC took the lead on two occasions before being pegged back, despite dominating possession.
Against Burnley, Chelsea enjoyed 69% possession and registered 33 shots on goal, but their efficiency was even worse in the draw at Bramall Lane. In fact, Chelsea were outplayed despite having the lion's share of possession. Sheffield United only had 32% possession against Chelsea but managed more shots (11 to six) and shots on target (six to three) than the away side. Pressure continues to mount on Pochettino, and a lackluster display against a struggling Sheffield United side has prompted fans to call for his dismissal.
