Oli McBurnie scored a late equaliser to deny Chelsea the chance to move to within three points of Manchester United in sixth position in the league. A severe disappointment for the Blues.

In a game many expected Chelsea to win, Thiago Silva put CFC in front within 11 minutes of the game, finishing off a superb cross from Conor Gallagher from a corner. Sheffield United though had other ideas and fought back to score an equaliser through Jayden Bogle after half an hour. Marc Cucurella was caught in no man’s land and Djordje Petrovic somehow gave the Blades striker so much room at the far post to squeeze the ball at the back of the net.

Chelsea retook the lead in the second half despite much pressure from the Blades. Noni Madueke cut in from the right flank and unleashed a spectacular strike into the top corner of the goal.

Noni Madueke’s first league goal this year seems enough to be sending the Blues to another huge victory until the stoppage. However, the Blades refused to give up and in stoppage time got a deserved equaliser through Oliver McBurnie after two flicks on in the Chelsea area.

Had the Blades been more clinical, they could have gone on to win the games giving Chelsea and making Chelsea a victim of their own stoppage-time win against Manchester United in midweek.

With all due respect to United, Chelsea should be winning this type of game if they are to continue to make progress and fight for European places at the minimum.
