The Ugly: Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea's defending

Fernandez was poor against the Hammers and his passing left too much to be desired. His defending was horrendous, and he lost an overwhelming majority of his duels. He completed just 1/5 long balls, won 1/4 tackles, and 4/15 duels. He also made an error leading to a shot. The World Cup winner's underperformance has gone on for a while, but the Blues don't have an alternative to him, so he'd continue playing.

Chelsea's centerbacks were not great; Colwill's passing was OK, but he lost too many duels. The England international only won 2/7 duels, losing all three ground duels he contested. Tosin Adarabioyo was slightly better defensively, but the former Fulham centerback completed 0/5 long balls.

Wesley Fofana had a difficult time against Crysencio Summerville at right back, getting pulled every which way.

West Ham piled a lot of pressure on the Blues, the only thing the East London club lacked was execution in the final third. Lopetegui's men took more shots and more shots on target than the away side. They also kept 40% of the ball in Chelsea's defensive third, which is way too high.

Chelsea's defensive non-performance has been a constant in all games this season. Maresca's men rank 10th for shots faced per game, but it gets worse, as the west London club ranks 14th for shots on target faced.

Maresca has to limit the number of shots Chelsea is facing, because these numbers against better players would spell a much uglier scoreline for his Blues.

Ultimately, a 3-goal margin away win with a clean sheet against your London rivals is a fantastic result, however, it's important to look at the game for what it was, and Chelsea could have played a lot better.
