Will Chelsea sell? Newcastle United approach for dynamic winger heats up

As per Football Insider, Newcastle United have expressed their interest in signing Chelsea's promising young winger, Noni Madueke, as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.

Madueke, a 22-year-old talent, made 34 appearances for Chelsea last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists. His performance has caught the eye of Eddie Howe's side, who are keen to strengthen their right-wing options. This interest comes after Newcastle missed out on signing Michael Olise, who recently joined Bayern Munich for £50.8 million.

Having joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for a fee of £29 million, Madueke found himself competing for playing time with established players like Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, and Mykhaylo Mudryk. Despite his evident talent, he only managed to secure 13 Premier League starts under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Newcastle sees Madueke as a valuable addition to their squad. The Magpies have approached Chelsea to discuss the possibility of a summer move for the young Englishman. Chelsea, having already spent £65 million on five new signings this summer, are open to the idea of offloading some players to balance their financial books.

While Madueke has shown promise during his time at Stamford Bridge, he is not considered an indispensable part of the first team. The Blues are willing to sell the winger but will be looking to make a profit on their initial £29 million investment.

Madueke's current contract with Chelsea runs until the summer of 2030, with an option for an additional 12 months. This long-term contract puts Chelsea in a strong negotiating position. However, Newcastle remains keen on securing the young talent as part of their broader strategy to enhance their attacking options.

Newcastle have also shortlisted West Ham's Jarrod Bowen and Leeds United's Crysencio Summerville as potential targets. However, complications surrounding a potential deal for Bowen have made Madueke a more realistic option for the Magpies. While they have assessed Madueke's availability, formal talks with Chelsea have yet to begin.

Eddie Howe is eager to add quality to his squad, and Madueke fits the profile of the type of player he is looking for. The young winger began his career in Tottenham's youth setup before moving to PSV Eindhoven in 2018, where he made a name for himself. Despite limited playing time last season, Madueke still managed to accumulate over 1,500 minutes of first-team football, showcasing his potential.

Chelsea's willingness to part ways with Madueke stems from their need to balance the books following a busy transfer window. Although the young winger has performed well, he is not considered a crucial part of their plans moving forward.
