Most teams in a multi-club ownership model follow the same system. However, Liam Rosenior prefers to play a 3-4-2-1 formation as opposed to Enzo Maresca's 4-2-3-1. Interestingly, Rosenior's successor at Strasbourg, Gary O'Neil, also favors playing a 3-3-2-1 system. The BlueCo ownership appears to have now got a clear plan on how it wants its teams to play.
The pressure will be on Rosenior to get results as Chelsea have won just once in their last seven Premier League games. They are currently fifth in the division, and delivering Champions League soccer is a must.
However, it will be a huge challenge for a manager with a limited CV that only includes Derby County, Hull City, and Strasbourg. It will take time for Rosenior to implement his style in Chelsea's system. Patience, which is not always the done thing at Stamford Bridge, will be needed. Here is how we can expect the Blues to soon lineup.
Predicted Chelsea lineup under Liam Rosenior
Goalkeeper: Filip Jorgenson
Robert Sanchez has constantly received criticism during his Chelsea career, and is believed to be the weak link in the lineup. This is despite his star performance in the Club World Cup final win over Paris Saint-Germain. Filip Jorgenson played in the Blues' 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend and could keep his place under Rosenior. In the future, Mike Maignan, who has been a long-term target, could join the club from AC Milan.
Center-backs: Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana
Under Maresca, Chelsea never had a solid center-back pairing. This was partly due to injuries. Providing everyone is fit, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, and Wesley Fofana could make a solid back three. However, in the near future, Rosenior may have to make do with playing two center-backs with Fofana and Colwill currently injured.
Wing-backs: Reece James and Marc Cucurella
Reece James has been influential for the Blues in midfield, but when playing a back-three, Chelsea may want their captain in defense. Malo Gusto is a great replacement for James when needed. The Blues skipper still has his injury concerns. Marc Cucurella is one of the best left-backs in the league and will no doubt keep his place.
Midfield: Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez
Moises Caicedo is the best defensive midfielder in the world, and Enzo Fernandez will likely continue alongside him as the more attacking option. Caicedo has made the 'Makelele role' his own. Even Claude Makelele believes the defensive midfield role is now the 'Caicedo role.' Fernandez has been great for Chelsea this season and has even popped up with six Premier League goals.
Attacking midfield: Cole Palmer and Estevao
Cole Palmer has been Chelsea's talisman since he arrived at the club from Manchester City. Estevao is the Blues' bright young talent. Chelsea has a new model of buying young players in the hope of selling them on.
This is what will likely happen to Estavao, should he continue his astronomical development. It will be a challenge for Rosenior to fit wingers such as Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto into his Chelsea lineup should he play a 3-4-2-1. The problem for Chelsea is that they have invested so much into Maresca's system, but these players may not work in Rosenior's plans.
Striker: Joao Pedro
Many see Joao Pedro as more of an attacking midfielder than an out-and-out striker. However, he has a better record than Liam Delap this season, with six Premier League goals. Delap is yet to score in English soccer's top flight for the Blues. In the future, the Blues will no doubt add a more prolific striker to their roster.
