It is safe to say that this Chelsea teams need to bring in reinforcements in the January transfer window if they hope to be competing for the biggest prizes in the game anytime soon. They are nowhere near good enough in several positions across the pitch, but especially up front and at the back.

Chelsea allowed Nicolas Jackson to leave in the summer despite knowing that Liam Delap had picked up a long-term injury and have paid the price for that. One can only hope that the Englishman starts scoring goals on a consistent basis, now that his return to the pitch is close.

It will be very interesting to see if Chelsea do end up signing another striker in January or not. If they do, that could mean another loan spell for Marc Guiu.

The Spaniard has already been struggling for playing time. He will slip down the pecking order further once Delap is back. And if another striker is signed, one would not expect him to even make the bench on most matchdays. So, a move away would make sense and he has been backed to make a return to Sunderland.

As reported by Football Insider, Mick Brown said:

"A move back to Sunderland would make a lot of sense, of course, because he’s already agreed terms when he made that move in the summer.

“I’m sure they will also been keen to get it done, because there’s a reason they wanted him before."

Right now, we are having a tough time seeing why Chelsea signed Guiu. He is a relentless presser off the ball and works hard, there is no doubt about that. But other than that, he is not doing a lot of great things at the moment. His finishing is not polished, he is not setting up others and his movement is not helping his teammates create a ton of chances either.

It is worth remembering though that he is still a teenager and has a lot of time to develop his game. But for that to happen, he will need to get consistent playing time, which is hard to come by at Stamford Bridge. So, if Chelsea sign another striker, it would make sense to send Guiu out on loan.
