When Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City in the summer of 2022, he was expected to be one of the faces of the club's new era following a change in ownership. But things changed quickly. Thomas Tuchel, who was instrumental in the Englishman's arrival, was sacked soon afterwards. And it was all downhill from there.

Sterling has shown some glimpses of quality during his time at Chelsea. But overall, it has been a disappointment. He was sent out on loan to Arsenal last season but he was even worse there, scoring once in 28 appearances.

Now, Sterling finds himself in a tough position. At 30 years of age, he is a veteran completely out of form. The interest in his signature has never been lower and it is hard to imagine what the future holds for him.

Chelsea would want to find him a new home as soon as possible. The issue is finding takers. Amid all this, a surprise club appears to have emerged in the race for Sterling.

As reported by Fanatik, the Besiktas management is trying to finalise a transfer with Sterling. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has met with him in person and said that he wanted to give him a chance.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether Besiktas want Sterling on a permanent basis or on a loan deal. Chelsea would be hoping for the former, but it is most likely the latter.

It is remarkable how quickly Sterling has gone from one of the best players in the world to someone who is struggling to find a suitable club. This is a player who has played for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. That's how quickly things can change in football.
