Chelsea's centre-back situation means that you can expect to see them being linked with central defenders for the foreseeable future, until they sign one or one of their current ones steps up to the plate in the absence of Levi Colwill. From what we have seen in the first several weeks of this season, the second of those is less likely to happen.

It has been suggested that Chelsea are confident in the centre-back options that they have right now. But if the situation does not show any signs of improving by the time the Jauary transfer window rolls around, perhaps the Blues will change their minds and try to sign a centre-back.

One of the players Chelsea have been linked with an interest in is Castello Lukeba of RB Leipzig, who is also a France international. The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are believed to hold an interest in the centre-back as well.

As reported by CaughtOffside, Lukeba can leave RB Leipzig for below his €90m release clause. The German side are ready to accept more like €60m.

It looks like the Ibrahima Konate situation could end up having a domino effect next summer. Chelsea have been linked with the centre-back as well. But then, Real Madrid also want him, with his contract running out at the end of the season.

On the other hand, it looks like both Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in Lukeba. Real Madrid have him on their radar as well.

So, there is no lack of interest in the 22-year-old. Of course, Chelsea have had their fair share of French international centre-backs in recent times. For the most part, it has not worked out. Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have shown potential but are far too injury-prone to be relied upon. On the other hand, Axel Disasi is out of Enzo Maresca's plans, training away from the squad and expected to leave in January.
