Chelsea need a bit of inspiration at the moment. As Cole Palmer continues to deal with fitness issues, we are not seeing the best from the mercurial England international. And on current form, Estevao might be the club's X-factor. Yes, the 18-year-old does have off games here and there, but overall, he seems like the only one capable of doing something of significance whenever he gets the ball.
Many felt that Estevao did not get enough playing time, based on his performance levels, under Enzo Maresca. The hope was that Liam Rosenior would start him a lot more often.
Rosenior did give him a start against Arsenal, and Estevao did not disappoint. He was one of Chelsea's most potent players going forward as he give the best defence in the country a ton of problems.
The expectation was that he would start against Brentford at the weekend as well. So, it came as a surprise when he was not even in the squad, and Chelsea fans were left worried that he had picked up some sort of injury, whether it be against Arsenal or in training.
Reason Estevao was dropped as Chelsea fans worry about injury
There is mixed news regarding Estevao. He is not injured. He has picked up an illness though, which seems to be running through the squad at the moment. As reported by Chelsea's official website, Rosenior said:
"Late yesterday, Estevao had a temperature and a fever.
'So he was ill; it's running through the squad."
Well, that is unfortunate, but one would imagine that it will not take long for Estevao to return to fitness. We wish him the best in his recovery.
This might very well explain the poor performance against Brentford as well, as the Blues looked lethargic and out of ideas for most of the game. Fortunately, they were able to get the win despite this, with goals from Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer sealing all three points for Rosenior's side, as the manager won his first game in the Premier League.
