Recall makes more sense than Chelsea paying £65m+ for star

Chelsea are fully circulating around the transfer rumour world. The Blues have partially ascended the Premier League table. Yet further astute signings are required to hit that next level. As usual, a world-class striker is needed to lighten the workload of, compete with or take over from Nicolas Jackson. Robert Sanchez isn't gonna make it as CFC's No.1 in the long term. So, if Filip Jorgensen isn't going to receive a proper chance in goal, that area needs upgrading very soon as well.

Finally, and pertinent to the two stories we are covering today, it could be argued that the west London side need a new and more suitable centre back too. It is true that Frenchman Wesley Fofana and Englishman Levi Colwill make a decent top flight pairing. But they still didn't reach the heights and consistency of other leading and rival teams. For example, Virgil van Dijk and whatever competent partner he has are typically superior. Not to mention standout Arsenal duo William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. Therefore maybe a requisite addition at the Bridge is a good idea.

Chelsea seek centre back transfer

Fofana's injury derailed the Stamford Bridge outfit's stability in defence to a degree. This coupled with the fact that replacements such as Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile appear unsatisfactory, is why Chels are being linked with signing or loaning in a fresh defender during the current month.

"Chelsea considering Trevoh Chalobah recall"
The Athletic

But rather than being fleeced, which is an inherent and unchangeable factor in January, recalling Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace makes more sense. The alternative is paying at least £65 million for a similarly talented Eagle whom the Blues once had on their roster.

"Chelsea transfer latest: Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi and Trevoh Chalobah eyed as potential centre-back options"
Sky Sports

Newcastle United's £65m bid for Marc Guehi was rejected in the summer. The Blues arguably shouldn't increase on that amount. Chalobah has proven his worth alongside Guehi this season: CFC should consider a recall instead.

"Crystal Palace are poised to reject a 'silly' offer from Chelsea for £55m-rated Marc Guehi"
The Sun

Guehi is probably ahead of Chalobah, though I believe the former is slightly overrated due to some satisfactory England performances. The latter seems more assured on the ball and offers further goal threat on set-pieces at present. If a permanent extra centre half is necessary in the summer, the Blues could conceivably do better than Guehi for value.
