Reece James major doubt for Panama game after suffering injury

Reece James is a doubt for England's final World Cup group game against Panama on Saturday.

The Chelsea captain hasn't been at his best so far, he did play the full 90 minutes in the Three Lions' 4-2 win over Croatia and again during their 0-0 draw against Ghana.

He is unlikely to be risked against Panama this weekend, though.

Reece James a doubt for Panama game

According to a recent report from ESPN, the 26-year-old was not involved during England's training session on Friday due to suffering a hamstring injury.

The right-back has suffered relentlessly with hamstring problems through his Chelsea career. He has suffered seven hamstring-related problems in the last four years alone.

It is an all too familiar problem and one Thomas Tuchel must now manage carefully having already lost Tino Livramento on the eve of the tournament.

Although James didn't train with the other 25 members of the England squad, he did work on an individual program.

Possible replacements for James

Even though James will be assessed closer to kick off, given England's guaranteed qualification into the knockout rounds, he is unlikely to be risked.

That could pave the way for Jarrell Quansah to make his first World Cup appearance. The Bayer Leverkusen defender was included in Tuchel's squad due to his versatility with the right back role one he's very capable of playing in.

Another option for Tuchel could be to move Ezri Konsa out to the right and start a centre-back pairing of either John Stones, Marc Guehi or Trevoh Chalobah.

Additionally, Djed Spence — a player we know Tuchel really rates — could play in James' place with Nico O'Reilly reclaiming his starting spot on the opposite flank.

Whichever set up the England manager goes with, one thing is for sure, with such limited natural right-backs to choose from, he'll be hoping James can fully recover in time for the Three Lions' Last 32 knockout tie, likely to take place on July 1.

England predicted lineup vs. Panama

In addition to the juggling act Tuchel must perform with James, the German could also make a handful of other changes.

Morgan Rogers will be expecting to win his first start after a late second half cameo against Ghana saw the Aston Villa star make a real impact.

The same can be said for Marcus Rashford who is pushing to start ahead of Anthony Gordon on the left-flank.

Jordan Pickford; Djed Spence, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi, Nico O'Reilly; Elliot Anderson, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers; Marcus Rashford, Noni Madueke, Harry Kane.

Although Declan Rice has been included in our predicted starting XI, it actually wouldn't be surprising if Tuchel opted to rest him in favour of Kobbie Mainoo due to his importance to the team and ahead of the knockout rounds.
