It’s no surprise that Chelsea spends a lot of time loaning out players. While fans often criticize the club’s decisions - whether due to a player's strong form at other clubs or the hefty transfer fees spent only for them to be loaned out for much less. Renato Veiga is one player drawing significant attention after his performances at Juventus.
The Blues signed Renato from FC Basel for £12 million on a seven-year contract, but the center-back made only one Premier League appearance for the London side, leading to the decision to loan him out during the January transfer window. When he did play for Chelsea, he was played as a fullback which is not where he believes his longterm future to be.
Initially, the plan was for the Portuguese defender to join Borussia Dortmund, but Fabrizio Romano later reported that he would instead be loaned to Juventus.
Joining Juventus
Veiga joined the Italian side last month and has already made such an impact that fans are urging the club to sign him permanently at the end of his loan spell.
He has seamlessly fit into Juventus coach Thiago Motta’s plans and stepped in for Gleison Bremer, who will be out for the rest of the season, as well as Juan Cabal, who is also sidelined with an injury. This has provided more game time opportunities for Veiga at his preferred position of centerback.
Although the Portuguese player has proven to play well in the past month, The Blues have set his price as €33M for any of the clubs to claim at the summer window which may be enough to scare off Juventus from making his move permanent.
Injury
Unfortunately for the Portuguese center-back, he suffered a tendon injury in his right leg during the recent game against PSV Eindhoven. According to Sky Sport, he is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks as he recovers. Thankfully this is not a long term injury and we can expect the young star to make his return to the Juve starting lineup very soon.
