After just one season at Chelsea, Alejandro Garnacho could soon be on his way out. He is already being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea was a fresh start for Garnacho after his spell at Manchester United had turned sour. He burst onto the scene at United, making his debut at the age of just 17 against the Blues. He won the FA Cup and EFL Cup with the Red Devils.
In total, Garnacho made 144 appearances for United, scoring 26 goals and 22 assists. His time at the club did not go to plan, and he appeared to have a bad attitude. Garnacho often looked frustrated; he stormed down tunnels, and his activity on social media was not always the best.
He was benched for the Europa League final, which United lost to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season. Being limited to just a 19-minute cameo appeared to be the final straw in his career at Old Trafford.
Chelsea made a mistake in signing Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho joined Chelsea in August of last year, but the move has not worked out. There have been flashes of brilliance, such as a brace in the EFL Cup semi-final against Arsenal. However, Chelsea went on to lose that tie 4-2 on aggregate.
In total, Garnacho has scored just eight goals with four assists for Chelsea in 39 games this season. He has not had a goal contribution in each of the Blues' last four Premier League matches, which have all ended in defeats for Liam Rosenior's side.
In the past, Garnacho has been linked with big clubs including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and Napoli. However, after a poor season at Chelsea, it would appear unlikely that any of these top sides would be interested in signing him. It could be difficult for a club to sign him permanently, given he is contracted to Chelsea until 2032.
A recent rumor is that Garnacho could be in line for a loan move to River Plate. As an Argentine international, this would be fitting for the forward. However, it would be seen as a step in the wrong direction for Garnacho to leave European soccer.
Chelsea have made some big-money mistakes since the BlueCo consortium took over the club from Roman Abramovich. The appointment of Liam Rosenior was underwhelming, and he is already under huge pressure. The Blues are currently sixth in the Premier League, and there is a real chance that they could miss out on qualifying for the Champions League.
