After impressing for Newcastle United in his season on loan in 2023 and fulltime season in 2024, Lewis Hall is Attracting attention from the biggest clubs in England. the young full back is reportedly a target of Liverpool as a long-term replacement for Andrew Robertson who is getting long in the tooth.
With Marc Cucurella as the only recognized left back on the Chelsea roster, we wonder if the Blues should be pursuing Halll as well. The young Englishman started his career with Chelsea and came up through the Chelsea Academy before joining the first team in 2022. He made 9 appearances for the Blues across all competitions before joining Newcastle in 2023 on loan with an option to buy for £28 million, plus £7 million in add-ons.
Newcastle would make his move permanent after an excellent 2023 season and at the time Chelsea had Cucurella and Ben Chilwell ahead of him on the death chart. With Chilwell departing on loan to Crystal Palace and coming towards the end of his Chelsea career, Hall may become an option for the Blues once again.
Liverpool's interest in him has been reported by Caught Offside and the links are growing ever stronger with the Reds looking to strengthen and already world class squad. Many Chelsea fans did not want the club to sell the youngster but they are hard pressed to turn down a pure profit that comes from selling an academy player for big money.
Hall has gone from a £28 million valuation two years ago to potentially being valued at £50 million this summer. He has been one of Newcastle’s better players this season with a FotMob rating of 7.1 in 34 appearances. This sale would likely hinge on Newcastle making the Champions League or not as they are battling with Chelsea, Manchester City, and 5 other clubs for one of those top four positions on the table.
The youngster has not given any indication that he is interested in returning to Chelsea and is considering a key part of manager Eddie Howe’s long term plans. The Blues would have to pay up to bring him back to Stamford Bridge and may have to promise him regular first team minutes in order to do so. The price may be worth it if he continues to develop and the fans would love to see a homegrown academy kid return home.
