Sunderland have made it back to the Premier League after a long absence. Much longer than any of their fans would have anticipated when they went down in 2017. Now, they are back but staying in the top flight has proven to be increasingly difficult for promoted teams in recent years. They will have to be smart about building their squad if they are to have any hope of staying up. And as it turns out, a Chelsea player is on their radar.

Chelsea have been heavily involved in transfer exits over the past few weeks. And there are still plenty of players on their books who could be on their way out soon.

Chelsea have added a couple of strikers this summer, bringing in Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. That has raised questions about the future of Nicolas Jackson. And you cannot forget they have another centre-forward on their books, who is now further down the pecking order. Sunderland could be an option for him though.

As reported by Keith Downie, Sunderland are in talks with Chelsea to sign Marc Guiu. The striker is available on loan.

Guiu was signed from FC Barcelona last summer and he spent the season at Chelsea. It was not the easiest time for the Spaniard as he dealt with fitness issues and a lack of playing time as well. But overall, he did a decent job, scoring 6 goals in 16 appearances.

All six of those goals came in Europe though. If Guiu has to have a long-term future at Chelsea, he will need to adjust to the English game.

A loan stint at a club like Sunderland might be a great opportunity to do that. Of course, the Blues need to make sure that he will get a decent bit of playing time there before sanctioning the move.
