Over the course of Chelsea's history, 17 Brazilians have played for the club. Others, like Diego Costa, Jorginho, and Emerson, were born in Brazil but chose to represent other nations at the international level. If you count those three, that brings the total to 20 for Chelsea.

This puts Brazil among the top five nations with players who have appeared for Chelsea, with Willian leading with 234 appearances over seven years in West London. The Blues currently have just two senior Brazilians at the club, Joao Pedro and Estevao, both of whom have had a successful impact since they were brought to Chelsea.

After Tottenham's 3-1 victory over Coventry on Monday night football, Jamie Carragher and former Spurs and QPR player Sandro created their all-time Brazil Premier League XI, in which both of their squads had three former Chelsea players in them.

Willian, David Luiz and Thiago Silva all made their squads, with the trio making over 500 Premier League appearances between them, but Alex, Oscar and Ramires missed out from their team with players they had to choose from.

Regarding the reasoning for selecting these players, Sandro said that David Luiz "he won the Premier League and played so well." Luiz was part of the Chelsea side managed by Antonio Conte, who lifted the league title in 2016/17. Thiago Silva was selected due to his impact in Brazil as well as how he performed on and off the pitch.

"He's top, good man and a top-top player"

As for Willian, he was seen as one of Chelsea's most important but also underrated players during his time at Stamford Bridge, after terrorising them when playing for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League before his move to London from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013.

What made the signing of the winger even sweeter for Chelsea fans was that they took him from under the noses of Tottenham, who looked to be in pole position to sign Willian, even completing a medical to join the North London side before meeting with Chelsea.
