Review of GW18
Fulham outclassed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day, winning 2-1. This marked the first time Fulham have beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since 1979.
Chelsea started well and took the lead through Cole Palmer. Palmer wriggled through the heart of the Fulham defense and scored a brilliant goal. Despite scoring early, the Blues failed to exert dominance and allowed Fulham back into the game.
As was the case against Leicester and Brentford, Chelsea conceded a stoppage-time goal again. The difference this time, however, was that it ended in a damaging defeat for the Blues. Chelsea have now slipped to third in goals scored—38—behind Liverpool (40) and Spurs (39).
In Fantasy Premier League (FPL), only one Chelsea player, Palmer, made it into the Team of the Week for GW18. Palmer scored a goal and collected 3 BPS, taking his points tally to 10 for the week and 141 overall. Chelsea remains the only team with two players in the top 10 for total FPL points this season: Cole Palmer (141 points) and Nicolas Jackson (93 points). This underscores the consistent contributions of Chelsea assets for FPL managers this season.
Chelsea's Opponent – Ipswich
Ipswich were outplayed by Arsenal in GW18 at the Emirates Stadium. Ipswich had no shots in that game, demonstrating the gulf in class between the two teams. The result marked the third time in five games that Ipswich have failed to score a goal. They have scored three goals while conceding nine in their last five games.
Ipswich are currently sitting in 18th, three points from safety, and have scored 16 goals this season—the third-worst in the league. They have managed to score six goals at home while conceding 16 in the process.
Head-to-Head
Ipswich and Chelsea have clashed only 10 times in league history, with Chelsea emerging victorious four times, Ipswich winning once, and five matches ending in draws. In those encounters, Chelsea have scored 16 goals, while Ipswich have netted 10.
The last league encounter between these teams was in 2002, which ended 0-0 at Portman Road.
