Chelsea Negatives

1. Cucurella’s Boot Choice

Both of Tottenham’s goals stemmed from Marc Cucurella losing his footing due to an incorrect boot choice. During warmups, players typically test their boots to match the surface conditions. Cucurella’s slip allowed Brennan Johnson to cross for Solanke’s opener, and another slip moments later gifted Kulusevski the opportunity to score.

To his credit, Cucurella recovered after changing boots, assisting Sancho’s goal that sparked Chelsea’s comeback.

2. Robert Sánchez’s Inconsistent Performances

Robert Sánchez remains a weak link in Chelsea’s lineup. While Cucurella’s slip led to the first goal, Sánchez’s poor anticipation exacerbated the situation. He dove forward unnecessarily, failing to cover a potential threat at the back post. For the second goal, Kulusevski’s shot from distance wasn’t especially strong, yet Sánchez couldn’t stop it.

His passing was equally problematic, completing just 53% of his passes (21/40) and only 14% of his long balls (3/21). Several misplaced passes placed Chelsea under immediate pressure. Fans and pundits alike are questioning Maresca’s persistence with Sánchez, as a change in goalkeeping could significantly elevate Chelsea’s performances.
