This UEFA ref just robbed Chelsea blind against Bayern Munich

Bayern were just gifted two free goals by referee Jose Maria Sanchez in the Champions League game tonight through an unusual and absurd call that turned a spoiled free kick into a drop ball that looked almost planned, and a controversial penalty that never deserved to be given.

Chelsea are a goal down at the time of writing this article, and the referee is to thank for that. The Bavarians must really be on a high right now for the two goals they were spoon-fed.

We do not know how a sane refereeing mind could comprehend that the solution to a free kick landing at his feet would be to award Bayern Munich a drop ball from an even more dangerous position than the original spot.

He also gave Chelsea no time to prepare for it or even inform them of his decision to change a free kick into a drop ball.

What an awful decision that was. And if that was not enough, the penalty call was just as bad. I admit that the challenge on Harry Kane was obstructing, but it was far too soft to completely manhandle the Bayern striker to the ground.

That was pure charade, once again used by the referee to hand Bayern an advantage.

At half-time, Chelsea are down by one goal thanks to a brilliant finish from Cole Palmer. He is too good on these important nights, but we must talk about how the two goals gifted to Bayern should not have happened in the first place.

If we are being true to ourselves, Chelsea should have been the team leading at half-time, but the referee decided otherwise.

These erroneous calls are honestly getting a bit too much. I can understand the penalty if really pushed for it, but the drop ball was simply stupid. Let’s call a spade a spade - the refereeing committee needs to look into this.

Anyway, Chelsea are still clearly the better team. Bayern have only scored from an own goal and a penalty they probably did not deserve to begin with.

Apart from that, they have not created much threat, while Chelsea have the momentum and should overcome the deficit in the second half.

There’s still plenty to play for. I am predicting a 3-2 win for Chelsea tonight. Probably another goal and an assist from Palmer. He has already put the team on the chart, but he needs to step up even more. A long 45 minutes await.
