Well, a win is not only needed to sign the year off on a high note, but it certainly is a necessity given the team has drawn and lost in their previous two encounters with Everton and Fulham respectively.
Enzo Maresca has received very little criticism since he took over the reins, but his managerial ability was under scrutiny for the first time by Chelsea fans due to his questionable decision-making in the loss to Fulham.
He will be looking to move on from the disappointment of the loss and rally his troops to put on a show against an Ipswich side who have lost four of their last five games.
Heading into the game against Ipswich, Chelsea will have most of the team available as no new injuries have been reported. However, there will be key players who will be essential to the team for a win against the Tractor Boys.
Cole Palmer
No Chelsea list of top-hitters has started without Cole Palmer in the past year and a half as such is the brilliance he has showcased since signing for the team. His jaw-dropping goal against Fulham was cancelled out by a meltdown in the last fifteen minutes, but the world knows Palmer could easily spawn with something similar the very next game.
Palmer already has 18 goals and assists in the season and we are only approaching halfway through the season. Last campaign, he picked form in the second half of the year and that means Chelsea could get the more explosive version of the 22-year-old soon.
However, Ipswich are not a side that will let Palmer dictate the game all that easily. They will try to neutralise the threat he poses by getting as physical as possible, but Cole will be determined to end his career year with another highlight reel worthy of a performance.
