West Ham United are starting a new era right now, having sacked Graham Potter recently. It is almost unbelievable that the new Chelsea ownership had thought that he was the man to lead the club into the future, considering how his career has turned out since leaving Brighton & Hove Albion. He might have a tough time getting a call from another Premier League club.
On the other hand, while West Ham have said goodbye to one former Chelsea man, it looks like they have their eyes set on another. In this case, he is enjoying a period of success since leaving Stamford Bridge.
The player in question is none other than Christian Pulisic. The American international has rediscovered his form since leaving Chelsea, although one could argue that he did not get enough chances towards the end of his run with the Blues and deserved a bit more patience.
As reported by Fichajes, West Ham are willing to spend up to €50 million to sign Pulisic in the next transfer window. However, AC Milan are confident that they can convince the American that his immediate future lies in Italy.
West Ham ready to offer €50m to sign former Chelsea winger
Pulisic often impressed when given a chance at Chelsea. He was brilliant towards the end of the 2019/20 season. And he was also instrumental in the Blues winning the Champions League under the management of Thomas Tuchel, although it never felt like the German manager viewed him as a starter.
Pulisic has shown his qualities since heading to AC Milan though. Over the previous two seasons, he had a combined 40 goal contributions in 70 Serie A games. This season, he has been even better.
In 7 games, Pulisic has scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists as well. So, it is not hard to understand why a club like West Ham United would be interested in signing a player in form like the American superstar, as reports in Spain indicate.
The idea of a return to the Premier League and London might be attractive to Pulisic as well. That being said, it does not feel like AC Milan would be open to the idea of parting ways with him for a €50 million transfer fee. The Hammers might need to shell out a significantly higher figure if they want to bring back the former Chelsea player to the English top flight.
