There was a different feel to this Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur contest. It was not the feisty game that we have often been served over the past decade or so. That being said, the result was a familiar one. The Blues came out on top against their London rivals, like they have so often in the past. Joao Pedro's goal. his first since August, proved to be the difference maker on the night.
While the result might be a familiar one, it was not completely expected this time around. Chelsea have struggled badly for form this season and not everybody would have been confident that they could go away to Tottenham Hotspur and get themselves a win, despite what the past records suggest.
This win will almost come as a relief for Chelsea and puts them back in the top four race, after they had started to slip away in recent weeks. And it was one player who stood out.
Moises Caicedo has arguably been the best midfielder in the world for a while now although he does not often get enough credit. This performance was another example of how good he is on both sides of the game. He won the ball high up the pitch only for Pedro Neto to put in a wasteful pass. Most would have given up then and there but not the Ecuadorian, who chased it down and won it again, then set up Pedro for the winner in the same sequence of play.
'What a player' - Chelsea fans blown away by performance vs Tottenham
One Chelsea fan wrote: "Moises Caicedo deserved all the praises man. What a player."
Another wrote: "Caicedo is the best midfielder in the world and we will make more noise about this. What a player what a midfielder."
Another added: "I think it’s time we stop putting Caicedo in best midfielder conversations. This is one of the best players. On the level with the likes of Mbappe."
Caicedo deserves all the plaudits that he is getting right now. Chelsea have been blessed with some elite midfielders over the years. But if the Ecuadorian can continue to perform like this and win silverware with the club, he will be right up there with the likes of Claude Makelele and N'Golo Kante. The fact that we are even making those comparisons just goes to show how good he has been.
