When it comes to offloading players and making an unlikely profit, Chelsea is one of the best at doing that, but contracts are something that every club always get caught out by, letting them run down, and allowing other clubs to swoop in and grab their player for a discounted price.
Whilst it may seem contradictory to say that Chelsea are one of the best at making a profit on a player, they have let some big-name players go on a free transfer in the past whilst being a main part of their side.
Key defenders like Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen both left for no money after Chelsea allowed the players to run down their contracts, in the same window, after both were a pivotal part of their Champions League winning run in 2021, many Chelsea fans could argue that the club hasn't been able to attract the same level of player since those two left.
The same could be said about Ngolo Kante and Cesar Azpilicueta, who were both let go in the massive transitional window of 2023, due to their ages and huge wages, the club thought it would have been best to cut their losses, but would really miss these two club legends.
For the current crop of Chelsea players, some are reaching the end of their current contracts and will either be offered a new one if they're seen to be part of the club's plans, or be let go when their deal finishes. Let's take a look at who's going to be pushing for a new deal and if they will be offered one.
Current starters such as Levi Colwill, Emiliano Martinez, Wesley Fofana, as well as someone like Josh Acheampong, all have their contracts running out in the 2028 summer transfer window, with reports from the Daily Mail's Kieran Gill saying that Colwill hasn't signed a new deal yet, but has held talks regarding the Englishman getting an extension, even if they may be a bit cautious considering how many goals Chelsea have shipped this season.
Looking at the more experienced players such as Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson, who both joined the club in the summer from Brighton and Brentford, their contracts also end in 2028 after signing a two-year deal with the club in the summer.
Fast forward a year, Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia will be the ones being examined. If both players last to the end of their deals, then they would have been at the club for eight and seven years, and would have given an outlook to the club whether they should be given a new deal or not.
